Replaying the fixture abandoned earlier this year due to icy conditions, the game was played in a similar fashion as the last match., a very close encounter, with both sides evenly matched. There was much hustle and bustle but neither keeper was put under any prolonged pressure. Both midfields cancelled each other out. Chris trying vigorously to unlock the Milton defence. But Adam and Hicksey up front had little opportunity to shine. Wantage played three at the back and five in midfield, and this contributed to a crowded midfield. An even 1st half ended all square. HT 0-0.

Jack came on to replace Adam and Andrew and Patrick switched wings, but the stalemate continued. The 1st goal was always going to be crucial and it came in a similar fashion to last weeks 1st goal. Milton’s right wing given to much time for an easy ball from the bi line and a simple tap in. Soon afterwards Pete Broad keeping the ball out of the net with a desperate goal line clearance. Wantage tried to fight back but midway into the 2nd half Milton scored again and it looked all over. Scottie came on for Hicksey for some fresh legs up front.

Enter Pete Hogan for his debut and the midfield picked up. Andy going up front, Petes astute passing and determination quickly putting Milton under pressure and eventually Pete Broad put the ball in the back of the Milton net to give the last few minutes plenty of goal mouth action at the Milton end. Good control by Andrew and a smart turn gave him room for a snap shot which the Milton keeper did well to push round the post. All the effort in the last few minutes was to no avail and Milton just held out to take the points.

A disappointing end to the season but Pete is full of optimism for next year with a small squad which has had another years experience under it’s belt. A few additions next year and the results will follow. FT Wantage Town 1 - Milton United 2.
